FINDING A BOOK

How to Find a Book in the Library

DEWEY

Fiction books are organized by the first three letters of the author’s last name. For example, if you wanted to find all the books written by Lemony Snicket, you would look for the call number FIC SNI – the FIC stands for “fiction” and the SNI stands for the first three letters of “Snicket.”

Nonfiction books are best explained by the following chart. However, I should warn you, not all nonfiction books are true. Don’t believe me? Check out the Dewey call numbers 398.2 and 741.5 (and those are not the only ones).

They are basically the same; the only difference is the examples that are ussd. I am told by some students that the one designed for adults is actually easier to understand.
